Dissecting A Female’s Apartment

living roomGood Evening Friends!

I am so proud of how “homey” my living room space has turned out. Today, I will dissect the living room of a young lady’s apartment. Aside from me turning IKEA into a one stop shop ($1000 for 2 side tables, a sofa, set of steak knives, a tv stand, a shelf for my bedroom, and delivery), I also got some hand-me-down chairs and accent pieces from my Mom-Mom’s collection. I am ballin’ on a budget here people!

1) This is a freakin’ awesome tortoise-shell from Target because Target is great! Even though it is from the Nate Berkus Collection, it reminded me of the GREAT TORTOISE SHELL WALL by Kelly Wearstler (my fav interior designer).

2) Let me put it into perspective: a bottle of red – because ladies nights happen and wine soothes the soul. ’nuff said.

3) My Smart TV and Blu-Ray Player were a bit more money.  Netflix + Pandora + YouTubing Jenna Marbles on the big screen was worth it. What is not worth it, are the cryptic Comcast bills….

4) What’s behind curtain number one? As stated before, I do indeed grow basil in a tea-pot. The tea-pot was MADE by one of my bffs and the basil is from Giant. I love basil on my eggs and in my homemade tomato sauces. It is way cheaper to get a plant than to buy those packets that never get used all at once anyway!

5) A candle and books of yoga wisdom. Strong mind and strong body!!

6) Magazines on a trunk that was used as my mom’s coffee table in her first apartment too! I store blankies in it and cut coupons on it! It is a great place in my living room!

7) BARGAIN BUY! 2 antique, folding bar stools for the price of one! They are located at the kitchen island. They are very “shabby chic” and I love them!

Stay true to you and make your living room your own ❤

Grandma Style – The Sequel

grandma sequelGood Evening little ones!

Just as I had suspected, after telling my friends about my “Grandma Style” post, they mentioned some of my other grandma-like qualities….. To get down to business, my friends said enough things for me to post a sequel. So here we go on another round of YOU or GRANDMA!?

1. Are Bundts your thing – both mini and regular sized? Do you also have a carrying case for your bundts? YOU or GRANDMA

2. Are you considered the mama in your group of friends because you always bring snacks and games to the party? YOU or GRANDMA

3. Do you grow basil in a teapot in your window sill? YOU or GRANDMA

4. Does your bedside table have lavender scented items (including a sachet and store-brand baby lotion) and also prayer cards with a mini Rosary? YOU or GRANDMA

5. Do you decorate for every holiday, even though you live on your own? YOU or GRANDMA

6. Is there a stuffed animal of a lamb on your sofa? WHAT!? YOU or GRANDMA

7. Are clipping coupons for yourself and sharing them with others your thing? YOU or GRANDMA

8. Do you rock your mom’s 80s glasses to bring you back to another time? YOU or GRANDMA

Phew – I hope this holds my friends over for a while. I also can’t imagine what else I do that makes me an 80 year old woman, but hey, I am sure they will point something else out to me! Speaking of Grandmothers – I also wanted to add the main reason why I started this blog was to share some of my Mom-Mom’s wisdome! Hey, I am just spreading the love in the form of bundt cakes and party games and attempting to be as caring as she was!

Keep on keepin’ on Grandmas

Grandma Style

Good Evening All!

I have missed you terribly!! I think I am finally mastering the full-time job, the part-time job, the bills, the family, the friends, the amazing boyfriend, and the “perils of being in 3-D”! So aside from watching Bridget Jones in my flat and listening to Incubus today, I thought of another one of my oddities. Yes, there are many – but resembling a Grandma is one of them on my mind recently.

So, help me out readers. Do you do these things or Does your Grandma do these things?

#1 Do you enjoy a hot cup of tea multiple times throughout the day? And if you want to treat yourself, do you whip out your antique sugar spoons to stir in a bit of honey that you squeezed out of a teddy bear-shaped bottle?  YOU or GRANDMA

#2 I know Snookie is the farthest thing from a Granny, except for one tiny factor: SLIPPERS! Do you wear slippers and swish around in them all day when you are at home, driving, or reading books and doing crossword puzzles? And when friends gave you the slipper socks, was that the greatest day everrrr?  YOU or GRANDMA

slippers

#3 Do you enjoy a good ‘ol bowl of oatmeal for breakfast? Or possibly, do you like to eat whole grain toast with peanut butter and raisins that are perfectly placed so each bite equals one raisin? Oh, wait, maybe that’s my OCD coming out?!! haha!  YOU or GRANDMA or ocd…

#4 Do you knit for relaxation? Do you knit while wearing very dorky blankets? Then, do you keep your knitting in an apothecary jar?  YOU or GRANDMA

knitting#5 Do you keep candy in jars around your house or apartment? I have one in the living room, one in the kitchen, and one in the bedroom…… Hey, it’s just because I am so sweet! 😉 YOU or GRANDMA

#6 Are “night lights” your thing?! YOU or GRANDMA

#7 Would one also say that cardigans are your thing?  YOU or GRANDMA

#8 Lastly, and in conclusion, is this what your doorstop looks like?  YOU or GRANDMA

door stopIf you have said yes to any of the above, you have made my night!

Common Courtesies for Good Karma

teaGood Evening!

“Life Isn’t About Finding Yourself. Life is About Creating Yourself.” is a fantastic quote that means many things to me. One of the clearest ways to describe this quote is that you are who you want to be. Creating yourself will take learning a lot about what makes you laugh and what makes you cry. You will go down a lot of good paths…anddd… some not so good.

Being that it is MANNERS MONDAY, one great way to create yourself, is to take pride in acts of kindness. I do believe that Karma and that everything in your life happens for a reason. Being a good and moral person always conquers and creates happiness. Brightening your spirits and those around you brings light into the life you’re creating for yourself.

Practice these common acts of courtesy daily:

1. Be Truthful & Be Tactful

2. Hold doors and offer your seat to others

3. Please + Thank You + Yes Sir + Yes Ma’am

4. Congratulate & Encourage

5. Be kind to others

6. Love a little too much

7. Bragging and Gossip are not necessary

8. Compliment someone you don’t know each day

9. Reach out to friends and family on a regular basis

10. Respect yourself, Respect others, & Respect nature

Stay Courteous my Loves ❤

Just in Time

meHello – Happy Belated Holidays – Happy New Year!
Have you ever gone through a phase in your life where the days just pass you by and you focus on important things and everything else just turns into a big ‘ol blurrrr? To join my whirlwind, you would have to know the following (you get sucked into the whirlwind even faster if you read this at lightning speed): I started working full-time as a Lighting Specifier for a Rep Agency and started as a Stylist for Stella & Dot, Hurricane Sandy came, my incredible Grandfather sadly passed away, Thanksgiving feast, I also lost my dear Uncle, my 24th Birthday, moved into my first apartment, flew to Georgia for training the following day, Christmas, received my first little blue boxes, skied in the Poconos (cried pretty much the whole time), New Year’s Eve, kiss had not one but 2 flat tires, and now it is the 15th of January.
Now that we are all on the same page, I am here to lighten things up! I had another insane day, but it is Trendy Tuesday none the less! You are all “just in time” to celebrate with some stella & dot eye candy!

Stella & Dot Launch

This is the post you all have been waiting for…  It is Trendy Tuesday and I am finally posting images from my first ever Qualified Trunk Show as a Stylist with Stella & Dot! You want arm candy – we’ve got it! You need that statement necklace to wow friends at your holiday party – we’ve got it! You want to have a cocktail and get styled in the latest jewelry and accessories – we’ve got it!

I was so excited to have the theme be “Jewels and Ghouls”! I wanted to make a simple , yet spooky tatement against the jewelry. I bought paper mache skulls and skull masks and sprayed them gold. I layered the skulls in a tall apothacary jar. As for the skull masks, I wired them to a cluster of branches and added twinkle lights. I also utilized gold for the trays that I put some of the bite-sized foods on. I baked mini red velvet cupcakes and iced them with cream cheese frosting. Carefully, I used a skewer to push the frosting out of the way and poked 2 holes to create VAMPIRE BITES!

Here is the first set up of jewelry with little black, sparkly spiders mixed in! Everyone loved the statement necklaces in the vibrant coral and turquoise colors. A big hit was the Alexandria Necklace which has scalloped metal pieces all layerd in it – I sold 2 of those! This table was a hit and my guests had a blast trying the jewelry on!

This was the other table with wonderful earrings and candy! The leopard print scarf and Deco Stackable rings were super popular. Trend Alert – Animal prints and deco-inspired vintage jewelry is very in right now! Mix and Match patterns and you are good to go!

To Jewelry. Period. ❤

In Art, There Aren’t Manners

According to good ‘ol Google, today would mark Rodin’s 172nd Birthday! In honor of one of the greats, I have decided to write today’s “Monday Manners” on the free spirit of the Arts! I went to The ART Institute of Philadelphia and let me tell you what – I have seen things and learned things about art that I never would have dreamt about. From pornography to very interesting interpretations! Below are some examples of why art has no bounds, why it is radical at times, and why it is not always ladylike.

1) Hmm, so you want to put on a show and create a painting all at the same time… Well, kill two birds with one stone and do the following: Paint your naked bodies blue and roll around on a canvas in front of an audience. <<Yves Klein>>

2) I know, you are an extremist and you need to make a statement today…. Go ahead, drop a crucifix into your own pee and take a picture of it! Voila, photography at its finest. <<Andres Serrano>>

3) It’s about 1647 and your goal is to have us speculate divine spirituality and sexuality. You are probably asking yourself, “In one piece of artwork?! Oh my Lord!” Take Bernini’s portrayal of The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa. Do the research, read the verse, look at the sculpture… <<Bernini>>

4) Is it right for a father to eat his child? It most certainly is not right…well… not unless… he is REALLY hungry and this is just a painting we are talking about!!! <<Saturn Devouring His Son by Goya>>

5) Typically, it is not publicly acceptable to appear before others in the nude! However, with art you can paint/draw/sculpt nudes all the live long day and then people can “oogle” at them in museums! Just check out the Rodin Museum for some inspiration 😉 <<Rodin Museum in Philadelphia, Pa>>

To staying Artistic & Well-Mannered ❤

TRENDY TUESDAY- say what?!

Hello all! I know today is not Tuesday, but we are taking the time machine back to that glorious day (I am sure you were really wishing you could relive it)! The days until my Stella & Dot Launch party are disappearing faster than a creamcheese frosted cupcake in muh general sightline… I think I have everything just about planned – plus, I can’t stop admiring my jewelry and I am sure my friends will feel the same way at the party. Layering jewelry and loading on the rings is very trendy right now. These Deco Stackable rings in Silver are fantastic to acheive a simple, sparkly, and sophistaced look. My favorite vintage style of jewelry is definitely Deco and it has made a huge comback in recent years. Art Deco uses very classic lines so adding pieces into your daily wardrobe is a must!
